RCC FOLLOW UP CLINIC AT KANNUR
MCCS is organizing bi-monthly RCC FOLLOW UP CILNIC at Kannur for patients continuing treatment, new cancer patients and cancer survivors since 1998
“Love birds as they are called; Smt Parvathy Amma, a patient identified as having cancer in the Chavassery camp in 1994, Smt. Parvathy Amma and her husband Mr.Kurup first reluctantly gone to RCC. When they come back after first course of treatment both of them were so happy. “ It is a place like heaven for us, cool atmosphere everywhere, doctors, nurses, attenders everyone is so kind and attentive to us, we got best treatment in every respect . We thought it would be just like the local Government hospital with mosquitoes, cockroaches and nasty smell everywhere coupled with unkind attitude from many of the staff. But it is really a heaven" , Kurup and Parvathy Amma told us. Both Kurup and Parvathy Amma had number of trips to Thiruvananthapuram and always together as lovebirds. " Our only problem is travel and night trains solve the problem to certain level “ they told us. This travel problem expressed by many of the patients prompted to think of an alternative to provide the RCC service and Dr.Krishnan Nair, RCC Director and Dr. Cheriyan Varghese were instrumental in formulating a plan to provide RCC service and finally the bi monthly “FOLLOW UP CLINIC” was started in 1998 to provide bi monthly review/follow up, consultation for new cases. This has not only provided great sigh of relief to patients of four District of Malabar by incurring huge expenses by way of travel cost and manpower required to go to Thiruvananthapuram, 400 km away from Kasaragod, but also the unnecessary pressure of work at RCC so that the RCC Specialists can pay required specialised attention to the needy. MCCS Kannur provided an outreach model for providing excellent services to the people of Malabar at nominal cost at the door steps of villagers at Kannur.
“A patient attending follow-up clinic gains savings of Rs.2000 to 5000”
At present there are 3019 patients and Cancer survivors from Kannur,Kasragod, Wayanad and Calicut Districts registered for follow- up clinic. Dr.K.Ramdas, Superintendant RCC Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Chandramohan, Surgeon RCC Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Divya,Ayurvedic physician are now giving excellent services through follow-up clinic. The cancer patients and their family members are highly satisfied and are having sigh of relief as they get RCC service at their nearby town at MCCS Kannur.
